Mitchell Instrument, MMJ-MITHD9, AC Hotstick Voltage Detector
The Mitchell MITHD9 AC Hotstick Voltage Detector is an essential non-contact safety device engineered specifically for first responders—including firefighters, EMTs, police officers, and industrial safety personnel. It detects dangerous AC voltage from a safe distance without needing to physically touch the energized source, preventing electrical shock and electrocution during rescue and emergency operations.
Key Features & Specifications
-
Audible & Visual Alerts: The device emits a continuous "beeping" tone and a flashing LED light when it detects voltage. As the user gets closer to the electrical source, the speed of the beeping and flashing increases.
-
Three Sensitivity Modes:
-
High Sensitivity: Maximizes the detection distance to check the general area for electrical hazards.
-
Low Sensitivity: Filters out long-distance signals to help narrow down the direction of the voltage.
-
Front-Focused Mode: Restricts detection to a narrow path directly in front of the unit (shielding interference from the sides). This is ideal for pinpointing exact wires or dealing with overhead high-voltage lines.
-
-
Extended Reach: At 21 inches long, the tool ensures the operator remains physically separated from live wires.
-
Built-In Self-Test: Upon turning the device on, an internal low-frequency oscillator simulates a live signal for 3 seconds. Rapid beeping confirms that the unit is operational before it is taken into a dangerous zone.
-
Rugged & Weather Resistant: Built with an IP66 rating for dust and water intrusion, making it dependable for outdoor use during storms or wet environments.
-
Voltage Range: Formulated for detecting AC voltage (typically from 100Vac up to 50 kVac, operating at 50/60 Hz frequencies). It does not detect DC voltage (like car batteries).
